There Were Some 1st Graders Who Swallowed Some Toys

Have you ever heard of the "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A...(fly, bat, shell, bell and the list goes on)" books by Simms Taback or Lucille Colandro? Well, these books have a pattern to them. The lady always swallows different things and in the end, she does something to make all the stuff come up and create something cool. For example, the lady swallows snow, a pipe, coal, sticks, a hat and scarf and then she hiccups twice and makes a snowman.

My 1st graders composed this little story to follow the pattern of the books mentioned above. I think you'll enjoy it very much. We create wonderful things in Rm 102...

There were some 1st graders who swallowed some toys.
I don't know why we swallowed some toys.
Perhaps they made noise!

There were some 1st graders who swallowed a star.
I don't know why we swallowed a star.
Perhaps it was from Mars!

There were some 1st graders who swallowed some lights.
I don't know why we swallowed some lights.
Perhaps they were too bright!

There were some 1st graders who swallowed some bows.
I don't know why we swallowed some bows.
Perhaps they tickled our noses!

There were some 1st graders who swallowed a tree.
I don't know why we swallowed a tree.
Perhaps it was free!

The 1st graders had eaten quite enough and were quite full.
So they thought and thought and came up with an idea...
They sneezed really loudly, AAACHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

And out came a Christmas Tree, just for you!
